Cardiology groups join with Munson

Traverse City — Effective Saturday, Jan. 1, two Traverse City-based cardiovascular physician groups will integrate with Munson Medical Center.

Physicians, midlevel providers and staff of Grand Traverse Heart Associates and Great Lakes Cardiology will combine to form Traverse Heart & Vascular, a service of Munson Medical Center. Leadership from the two cardiology groups met with Munson earlier this year to discuss collaborating to enhance the delivery of cardiovascular care in the region.

The hospital-based cardiology group will be dedicated to providing and expanding cardiovascular services to a region that stretches from Traverse City to Cadillac, Grayling, Gaylord, Alpena, Sault Ste. Marie and other northern communities.

Free classes at Yoga for Health Education

Traverse City — Yoga for Health Education Center for Conscious Living will offer free classes Sunday, Jan. 2, to introduce people of all ages to the health and restorative benefits of non-competitive exercise.

Fifteen one-hour classes will be offered between 1 and 7 p.m. at Yoga for Health, 1200 W. 11th St., suite 106, at The Village Center at the Grand Traverse Commons. A 12-week series of classes will start Monday, Jan. 3, and features more than 50 classes, clinics and workshops.

Adaptive winter sports programs

Thompsonville — Northern Michigan Adaptive Sports and Recreation will offer events in January and February for individuals with physical disabilities.

Northern Michigan Adaptive Sports and Recreation is a nonprofit organization affiliated with Munson Rehabilitation Services. It is dedicated to providing sports and recreational opportunities to individuals with physical disabilities, their families and their friends.

Participants can learn to ski or snowboard with the help of qualified instructors and volunteers at Crystal Mountain Resort. Dates are Jan. 8, 9, and 29; Feb. 26 and Feb. 27. Specialized adaptive ski equipment will be provided as needed.
