---- — The West Shore Medical Center Auxiliary recently celebrated its 60th anniversary.

In November 1950, Sister Mary Helena, Mother Superior of what was then Mercy Community Hospital, invited four prominent Manistee women to survey the need for an auxiliary. The need was there and six decades later, West Shore Medical Center Auxiliary's 115 members donate thousands of hours each year greeting and transporting patients, providing clerical help and offering extra hands for office staff and nurses. It also operates the hospital's gift shop and raises money to support the medical center.

Opportunities exist for all ages and training is provided. For more information on joining the Auxiliary or volunteering at West Shore Medical Center, call 398-1270.

The Benzie Area Zonta Club donated $2,000 to Paul Oliver Memorial Hospital in Frankfort for its annual Wellness Day.

Wellness Day started as a women's day activity with financial support from the Zonta chapter and has grown to include screenings for both men and women.

Missaukee County EMS recently received a $1,000 grant from the Missaukee Area Community Foundation.

The funds will go toward the purchase of a "Lucas Chest Compression Device." The machine performs chest compressions and will be used when CPR is needed. The grant was written by Alan Devereaux, EMS Coordinator for Missaukee County.
