Free/low-cost horse health clinic offered

Suttons Bay — Tanja C. Molby, DVM, in conjunction with Michigan State University Veterinary School, will hold a free/low cost horse health clinic.

The clinic will be held Sunday, Oct. 24, at Blackstar Farms. It is designed to help horses and their owners challenged by economic hardship. Services include equine dentistry, nutritional consults, vaccinations and more. For details, contact Dr. Molby, 271-4100, or tmolby@charter.net.

Drums aiming for 'Healing Rhythms'

Traverse City — The Traverse City chapter of P.U.R.E. (Public Urban Ritual Experiment) will sponsor a "Healing Rhythms" drumming workshop.

The workshop will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 24, at Crystal Bindi Studios, 2062 S. Airport Road, in Logan's Landing. It will be led by Dede Alderman.

The cost is $10. Drums will be provided or participants may bring their own. For details or to register, call 313-5577.

Retinal exams provided for free

Traverse City — Northern Vision Eye Care will hold free optomap® Retinal Exams and also offer a free seminar about cataract surgery.

The optomap® Retinal Exam provides eye-care practitioners with clinically useful information about the health of the retina. It also provides the ability to monitor changes in the retina and compare images over time. Exams are fast, easy and painless and will be offered all day Tuesday, Oct. 26, by appointment.

The cataract surgery seminar will be held from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27. Topics include what cataracts are, symptoms, when to have surgery, lens implant choices and Multifocal IOL's. Light refreshments will be served.

Free film puts focus on mental illness

Suttons Bay — Northern Lakes Community Mental Health and the Bay Theatre will sponsor a free screening of the movie "Proof," followed by a panel discussion.
