Huntington's support group will meet
TRAVERSE CITY -- The Huntington's disease support group will hold its holiday potluck meeting on Saturday.

Holiday relaxation seminar offered
TRAVERSE CITY -- Nourish will offer a two-hour "Relaxation During the Holidays" seminar.
The workshop will begin at 2 p.m. on Wednesday and will offer participants tips and tools to help keep their mind and body calm in a variety of stressful situations. The cost is $10 and registration is required. Attendees should bring bed pillows and a mat or blanket.

Recipe cards for healthy eating
TRAVERSE CITY -- Medicine Shoppe pharmacies and the American Diabetes Association are offering free "Live Healthy Nutritional Recipe Cards" in recognition of American Diabetes Month.
Locally, the cards are available at the Medicine Shoppe pharmacy at 1128 S. Garfield Ave., while supplies last. The set includes 10 ADA-approved recipes for the holidays and throughout the year. Each recipe includes nutritional information as well as the serving sizes for each of the Diabetes Food Pyramid categories.
Help with smoke detector batteries
PETOSKEY -- Help with smoke detector battery replacement is available to senior citizens living in the service area of the American Red Cross of Northern Lower Michigan.
Members of the Disaster Action Team are available to change smoke detector batteries for senior citizens by appointment. All members of the team have completed background checks for security purposes and will be clearly identified as Red Cross volunteers.
Sign-up sheets are available at the local Commission on Aging or senior center facility in Alanson, Bellaire, Boyne City, Central Lake, Charlevoix, Cheboygan, East Jordan, Elk Rapids, Harbor Springs, Mackinaw City, Mancelona, Pellston, Petoskey, and Wolverine. Seniors also may call the Red Cross office, 348-7666, to schedule an appointment.
Transportation help for area seniors
TRAVERSE CITY -- The Grand Traverse County Commission on Aging is offering BATA Pass coupons at discounted rates for senior citizens who have no other means of transportation to medical appointments.
Only one pass per person will be issued at this time. Recipients must be at least 60 years old, residents of Grand Traverse County and demonstrate a need for this assistance. Fees are based on ability to pay using a sliding fee scale.
Passes include 45 punches and can be used on the BATA Cherriot and BATA Dial-A-Ride buses. Dial-A-Ride will pick up riders at their home and is two punches each way. BATA Cherriot is one punch per ride each way. For details, call the Commission on Aging, 922-4688 or toll-free (877) 686-4688.
Basic EMT course will be available
MESICK -- Munson Regional EMS Education will offer a course to equip qualified candidates with the skills to pass the national emergency medical technician exam.
Prerequisites for the class include proof of a Hepatitis B vaccination (or in the process of receiving the vaccination), proof of MMR immunization, professional liability insurance, a high school diploma or GED and completion of the HOBET basic entry test. The test is not required for participants who can provide proof of completion of at least one semester of college English or math.
The class will meet from 6 to 10 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday and some Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. starting Jan. 8 and continuing through June 2. It will meet at the Mesick EMS/Rescue Training Center. The $925 cost includes textbooks. Anyone successfully completing the course will be eligible for the National Registry of EMT examination.
