Natural Health Network meeting

Lunch aids Women's Cancer Fund
TRAVERSE CITY -- Charcoal grills will be cooking burgers, brats and chicken sandwiches during a Lunch on the Run event taking place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday at two locations. The event will benefit the Women's Cancer Fund. For the first time the Bill Marsh auto dealership on South Garfield and the Hagerty Insurance headquarters on Cass Street are hosting the event.
Hamburgers, brats or chicken sandwiches, chips and bottled water will be available for $7. A choice of two meats also will be offered for $10. Advanced order forms are available at www.BillMarshLunch.com.
While walk-up orders are encouraged at both locations, delivery orders will be accepted for a limited area at the Bill Marsh location. A $1 per order charge will be added for delivery.
Employees at both Hagerty Insurance and Bill Marsh Auto are using this fundraiser to sponsor teams that will be running or walking during the annual Remembrance Run at Timber Ridge Campground on Oct. 4. The Remembrance Run supports the Women's Cancer Fund at Munson Medical Center, that helps women with financial assistance as they deal with the effects of breast cancer. Support group's gluten-free dining
ELK RAPIDS -- Pearl's New Orleans Kitchen will sponsor a dinner for celiacs and others who follow a gluten-free diet starting at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The event is being held in conjunction with the Traverse Area Gluten Free Support Group. Reservations are needed by today. Call 275-6410 or 943-9285.
Pearl's, known for it's Cajun/Creole cooking, was the first restaurant in the area to offer a gluten-free menu.

'Green' conference for health industry
LANSING -- The Department of Environmental Quality along with Metro Health Hospital and the Michigan Health and Hospital Association, will sponsor the state's first "green" conference for health care providers from 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Sept. 25 at Metro Health, 5900 Byron Center Ave., in Wyoming, Mich.

Women's conference on wellness issues
KALKASKA -- All Kalkaska area women are invited to participate in a day of relaxation, exploration and learning.
The Women's Conference will be held Sept. 27 at Kalkaska High School. Holistic health and wellness motivational speaker Barbara Badolati of Grand Haven will give the keynote address. The day also will include a choice of 16 sessions focusing on a variety of topics including relaxation and stress management, cooking, personal finance and more.

Free health screenings
LAKE LEELANAU -- The Benzie-Leelanau Health Department and the Traverse City Health Clinic will provide a Free Health Day for underinsured and uninsured men and women in Leelanau County.
Health screenings will be available by appointment from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sept. 27. Screenings include lab tests, physical exams, mammograms and prostate and Pap tests. There also will be health and wellness booths and massages will be offered.

Northern Michigan AIDS Walk slated
TRAVERSE CITY -- The public is invited to participate in the Sept. 28 Northern Michigan AIDS Walk.
Registration will start at 11:30 a.m. at the Grand Traverse County Civic Center, with opening ceremonies at 12:30 p.m. and the walk starting at 1 p.m. There also will be a silent auction, vendors, informational displays, food prizes, entertainment and more. All funds raised stay in the community.

Walk for Juvenile Diabetes research
TRAVERSE CITY -- The West Michigan Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation will sponsor it's annual Walk to Cure Diabetes. Festivities begin at 7 p.m. Sept. 26 with a concert and Line Dancing at Inside Out Gallery featuring Blind Dog Hank and Ryan Dobry.
The main event begins at 10 a.m. Sept. 27 at Sunset Park in Traverse City. Registration for the 5K walk starts at 8:30 a.m. The chapter's goal is to raise $80,000 for research to find a cure for diabetes and its complications.

Arthritis Foundation offers fall classes
TRAVERSE CITY -- The Arthritis Foundation will offer exercise and self-management classes this fall in Cadillac, Charlevoix, Houghton Lake, Petoskey, Roscommon and Traverse City.
Specially designed classes include aquatic programs, an exercise program, Tai Chi and a six-week self-help program. The programs are suitable for adults of all ages with arthritis and also are an option for people seeking a gentle exercise alternative and people who are new to exercise.
