Local therapist Dr. C. Lynn (Carol) Anderson has published a book that combines the insights of psychology and social work practice with spiritual and religious traditions. Dr. Frederick Arnold, DDS, was recently published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dentistry and also has been appointed a coach in the performance coach program.

Arnold is a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry and a volunteer in the Give Back a Smile Program. His article recounted both technical and personal experiences of helping restore the smile and life of a young mother who had been in an abusive situation resulting in damage to her teeth. The performance coach program is offered by the Schuster Center for Professional Development in Scottsdale, Ariz.

Special Olympics Michigan volunteer Judy Grove has been named the Outstanding Volunteer for Antrim, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska and Leelanau counties.

Area 2 Director Sheila Blonshine chose Grove, a volunteer for five years, for her willingness to support Area 2 Special Olympics in any way she can. All area outstanding volunteers will be formally recognized for their contributions on May 28 in Mount Pleasant.

The current exhibit in the Healing Arts Gallery at West Shore Medical Center in Manistee features the art of northern Michigan artist Janet Long.

Long recently was named the 2008 Michigan Ducks Unlimited Sponsor Artist of the Year. Her painting, Widgeon Waters, was selected as the 2008 Michigan Ducks Unlimited Sponsors Print by a people's choice vote at the 2007 Michigan Ducks Unlimited state convention.

Long studied art at Brethren High School and painting at West Shore Community College. Today she lives in Harrietta where she sells her work at local galleries and teaches art classes.

The Healing Arts Gallery is located on the hospital's first floor near the public elevators and cafeteria, 1465 E. Parkdale. It is open to the public during regular hospital hours.
