Mancelona man faces strangulation charge

MANCELONA — A Mancelona man is the first person in Antrim County to face charges under Michigan’s new strangulation law.

Cody Lee Hamilton, 23, was arraigned last week in 86th District Court on charges of felony assault by strangulation and interfering with electronic communications.

Court documents state a woman reported Hamilton choked her after throwing her to the ground and breaking her cell phone when she tried to call police.

Antrim County Prosecutor Charles Koop said the strangulation charge carries a maximum 10-year sentence.
