Flights taking off despite snow

TRAVERSE CITY — Snow is blanketing the Grand Traverse area this morning but Cherry Capital Airport officials expect most flights will continue throughout the day.

The airport's first departure this morning -- a Delta flight to Detroit scheduled to depart at 5:40 a.m. -- was cancelled after the plane's inbound flight to Traverse City was grounded Tuesday night. No other cancellations are expected as of this morning, airport Operations Manager Dan Sal said.

Sal said travelers should arrive at the airport 90 minutes early and check the airport's website or call airlines for updates on flights.

The winter weather has made driving difficult. Grand Traverse sheriff's deputies responded to 21 accidents between Tuesday afternoon and this morning, authorities said.

Deputies also responded to a report of a missing hunter in Union Township Tuesday. The hunter was found with no serious medical conditions from cold or exposure late Tuesday night.
