Lions bring Reggie Bush in for visit

ALLEN PARK — The Detroit Lions met with running back Reggie Bush and are reportedly on the verge of re-signing cornerback Chris Houston after the first day of NFL’s free agency period.

Detroit reportedly met with free agent defensive tackle Jason Jones and Bush on Tuesday, with Bush flying in late in the evening. Arizona and Cincinnati are also interested in the former USC star runner who had 2,660 yards from scrimmage and 15 TDs the last two seasons in Miami.

Jones, a Detroit native, played at Eastern Michigan and had three sacks and 10 tackles last year with the Seattle Seahawks. The 6-foot-5, 276-pound lineman previously played four years with the Tennessee Titans and was drafted in the second round in 2008 when current Lions head coach Jim Schwartz was the Titans’ defensive coordinator.

The Lions and Houston are said to be in negotiations on a three-year deal.

Detroit signed special teams standout Kasim Osgood to a one-year contract, and also re-signed safety Amari Spievey to a one-year deal.

Early in the day, the Lions placed a second-round restricted free agent offer to defensive end Willie Young, who will make $2.023 million in 2013. The value of linebacker DeAndre Levy’s three-year deal signed last week is $9.75 million.

Meanwhile, starting right tackle Gosder Cherilus agreed to terms with the Indianapolis Colts on a five-year, $34 million contract.

USA Today also reported that the Lions made a contract offer to New York Giants receiver Domenik Hixon, but Hixon tabled the offer and is looking at other teams as well.

According to multiple reports, Detroit kicker Jason Hanson decided to return for another season, although there have been no contract negotiations yet.

Tennessee is reportedly on a verge of signing Lions defensive tackle Sammie Lee Hill.

Defensive end William Hayes, who Detroit had targeted as a possible replacement for Cliff Avril, re-signed with St. Louis, which is also interested in Lions free agent safety Louis Delmas. Avril is being pursued by the Colts.

Green Bay did not offer restricted free agent linebacker Frank Zombo (Central Michigan) a contract, making him a free agent.
