GAYLORD — Visiting Mancelona held on for a 60-55 Ski Valley Conference win over Gaylord St. Mary on Tuesday.
The Ironmen (6-2, 5-0 SVC) led 54-34 after three quarters before the Snowbirds stormed back to make it 56-55 late in the game. However, Mancelona got a pair of free throws from Brandon Scott and Wyatt Derrer to close out the win.
Scott finished with 20 points and six rebounds while Derrer had 12 points. Griffin Borst had nine points, six rebounds and three steals while Brandon Dingman had 12 points, 11 rebounds and four assists.
Mancelona is at Joburg on Thursday.
Glen Lake 80 Elk Rapids 69
Carter Lee erupted for 34 points as Glen Lake was able to get past Elk Rapids 80-69 in a non-conference contest.
Mike O'Brien added 19 and Curtis Bunek 18 for the Lakers.
Elk Rapids sprinted out to an early 17-3 lead before Glen Lake stabilized and was able to pull within 24-15 by the end of the first quarter and to within two by halftime. The Elks hit a dozen 3-pointers in the game, to the Lakers' five.
Austin McMullen scored 19 to pace Elk Rapids (5-4, 2-2 Lake Michigan), while Jesse Starr added 16 and Shae Somers and Cole Walker each had 12. The Elks travel Friday to Kalkaska.
TC Christian 56 Lake Leelanau SM 40
Kris Crosby scored a game-high 25 points and grabbed seven rebounds as Traverse City Christian topped Lake Leelanau St. Mary's 56-40.
Paul Bump added 10 assists and Jesse Heerdt pulled down nine boards for the Sabres (6-4), who travel Thursday to Northport).
Brandon McSawby scored 14 points to lead Lake Leelanau.
Cadillac 40 Kingsley 29
Jalen Brooks and Nick Paquet each scored 11 points as Cadillac won a non-conference defensive battle with Kingsley 40-29.
Tyler Newell scored nine points to lead Kingsley (3-5), which travels Thursday to Leland.
Forest Area 75 Onaway 65
Onaway chipped away at Forest Area's lead, but the Warriors knocked down their free throws late to earn a 75-65 Ski Valley Conference victory.
The Cardinals had pulled within two points at one point in the fourth quarter.
Justin Burke led Forest Area with 26 points and four blocks, while Austin Vance put up 20 points, six assists and nine rebounds. Chris Birgy scored 10 points and Tyler Birgy grabbed eight rebounds and helped contain Onaway's top scorer, Joe O'Bradovich, who paced the Cards with 12 points and eight boards.
The Warriors (5-2, 4-1 SVC) travel Thursday to Central Lake.
Bellaire 67 Pellston 40
Bellaire jumped out to a 27-7 lead after one quarter of play en route to a 67-40 victory over Pellston.
Tyler Thornton scored 26 points for the Eagles, while Mitch Teetzel added 15 points and seven rebounds. Denny Hall had 10 points and five assists and Drew Bailey scored 10 points.
Tanner Keller paced the Hornets with 15 points, Jake Friedenstab had 12 and Austin Hamlin 10.
Bellaire (6-0, 4-0 SVC) travels Thursday to Onaway.
Boyne Falls 59 Ellsworth 24
Marcus Matelski led Boyne Falls with 25 points in a 59-24 Northern Lake Conference win over Ellsworth.
Brendan Matelski added 13 and Max Reed 11 for the Loggers.
Winter Romeyn scored 10 to pace Ellsworth (1-2 NLC), who travels Thursday to Harbor Light.
GT Academy 46 Cadillac Heritage 38
Grand Traverse Academy used a 17-5 fourth-quarter advantage to reel off a 46-38 victory over Cadillac Heritage.
The Mustangs trailed 33-29 going into the final quarter after leading much of the way. GT Academy led 23-11 at halftime before the Patriots ran off a 22-6 third-quarter spurt.
Max Boothroyd led the Mustangs with 20 points, while Alex Houston added 15.
Quinn Crago led Heritage with 13 points.
GT Academy (4-4) hosts Traverse City Prep on Friday.
Beal City 80 Manton 36
Kurt Gross knocked down five 3-pointers as part of his game-high 21 points to lead Beal City to an 80-36 win over Manton.
Freshman Tyler Swing led the Rangers (3-4) with 14 points. Manton travels Friday to Marion.
McBain 70 McBain NMC 59
McBain (5-3, 3-1 Highland) broke open a close game in the second quarter and went on to post a 70-59 victory over host Northern Michigan Christian.
Senior guard Jared Larr drained back-to-back 3-pointers to ignite a 12-0 run that pushed McBain's lead from 28-26 midway through the second quarter to 40-26 with 1:34 left before the half.
Larr lit it up for 20 points, including five treys, and big man Hunter Powell tallied 25 for the Ramblers. Senior guard Chris Ouwinga hit for seven.
Senior wing Trevor Gernaat racked up a game-high 30 points, including four treys, to lead the Comets and senior guard Matt Pluger produced 14 points with seven rebounds and five assists.
Elk Rapids 65 Lake Leelanau SM 57
Paige Granger scored 19 points to lead Elk Rapids to a 65-57 victory over Lake Leelanau St. Mary's.
Michelle Costa added 13 points and Celsey Waite seven for the Elks.
Rachael Thon put up 19 points and 11 rebounds to lead St. Mary's. She was aided by Hannah Weber's 12 points and five boards.
The Eagles (2-8) host Bellaire today.
Glen Lake 46 Manton 41
Scotlyn Brengman filled the stat sheet in leading Glen Lake to a 46-41 non-conference win over Manton.
She notched 19 points, 11 rebounds, two blocks and two steals.
The contest was tied 30-30 in the third quarter after Glen Lake led 24-16 at halftime.
Jessica Lee added 11 points and seven rebounds and Maddy Brown had eight points and 12 rebounds.
The Lakers (8-3, 4-1 Northwest) travel Friday to Frankfort.
Jurrica Stanley led Manton with 18 points and Karrah Baker had 12.
Cadillac 61 McBain 60
Free throws spelled the difference for Cadillac in a 61-60 home win over McBain.
The Vikings (10-1) were 21-for-24 from the line in the game, including 8-for-8 in the fourth quarter. The Ramblers (4-4) were 15-for-25 from the free-throw line.
For McBain, Meredith Hamlet had 22 points, nine rebounds and eight assists. Keiana Westdorp had 13 points and nine rebounds off the bench while Madison Barnett scored eight points.
Cadillac had 15 points from Mary-MaRae Baker.
