Demo by Lego artist

Charlevoix — Budding Lego artist Paul Vermeesch will be the featured artist Thursday, Jan. 17, at the Charlevoix Library "Artist in Action" series.

Vermeesch, age 16, will demonstrate his Lego hobby by completing a Lego scale model of the Charlevoix Public Library from 2 to 4 p.m. at the library. Vermeesch is planning to start a business to help support his hobby and is launching a website to market his new business, Miniature Modeling, creating Lego models for customers.

Camera club meets

Traverse City — Dr. Robert Pool will share his approach to creating black and white digital images at the Thursday, Jan. 17, meeting of the Traverse Area Camera Club.

Logo sticker sale

Traverse City — Love Traverse City„¢ will be selling custom logo stickers at the Traverse City West vs. Central basketball game Thursday, Jan. 17, to raise money for the schools.

The custom logo bumper stickers represent each school's colors and 50 percent of sales from the $6 stickers will benefit Traverse City West and Central.

Robert Burns Night

Traverse City — The St. Andrews Society of NW Michigan will celebrate Scotland's national poet on Sunday, Jan. 20.

Robert Burns Night will begin at 5 p.m. at Sleder's Tavern, 717 Randolph St., with bagpipes, Highland dances, haggis, live music, a raffle and door prizes.

'Friend' weekend

Traverse City — Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 1050 Peninsula Dr., is encouraging its members to bring a friend to services Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 19-20.

After the 5 p.m. service on Saturday, there will be a light supper, fellowship and games.

On Sunday, coffee, cookies and conversation follow the 8 a.m. service, with an adult forum and Sunday School at 9:15 a.m. The 10:30 a.m. service will be followed by a light lunch, fellowship and games.

Benefit breakfast

Traverse City — The St. Patrick Men's Club will host a pancake breakfast Sunday, Jan. 20, to benefit Reining Liberty Ranch.

The nonprofit ranch enriches the lives of military veterans and their families through programs like Grand Traverse Horses 4 Heroes.

The meal will be served from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at St. Patrick Church, 630 W. Silver Lake Road. Prices are $5.50 for adults, $3.50 for children 6 and older, free for children 5 and younger, and $20 per family. Additional donations are appreciated. For details, call Alan Staley, 943-8545.

Newcomers meet

Traverse City — Karen Schmidt, president of the Board of Trustees of the Botanical Garden Society of Northwestern Michigan, will be the guest speaker at the Tuesday, Jan. 22, meeting of the Newcomers Club of Grand Traverse.

Frankfort — The MSU Alumni Club of Benzie County invites basketball fans to join them for the MSU vs. Wisconsin game Tuesday, Jan. 22,
