— 14 TCJGA members earn scholarships

TRAVERSE CITY — Fourteen members of the Traverse City Junior Golf Association will be awarded scholarships through the TCJGA toward their college education in the fall.

The recipients will be honored at the TCJGA Scholarship Tournament and Dinner on July 29 at the Traverse City Golf and Country Club.

Scholarship winners, along with high school and college attending for graduating seniors, are: Zack Bialik, Manistee Catholic (Grand Rapids Community College); Riley Boyd, TC Central (Kalamazoo College); Todd Goebel, Northville (University of New England or Johnson and Wales); Brady Greenman, TC West (Michigan State or Grand Valley); Winton Munch, TC Central (undecided); Cameron Murray, TC West (College of the Holy Cross); Payden Myers, TC West (Michigan State University or Hope College); Mike O'Brien, Glen Lake (University of Michigan); Ryan Sievers, TC West (NMC); and Trey Pezzetti, TC Central (Michigan State).

The scholarship winners from current college students are: Nikolaj Brons-Piche, Texas Wesleyan; Kevin Gaston, Ferris State; Aaron Greenman, Grand Valley State; and Shelby Newhouse, NMC.

 

GTSFA fishing league starts May 15

TRAVERSE CITY — The Grand Traverse Area Sport Fishing Association will kick off its 2013 Weekly Fishing League on May 15 at the Elmwood Township Launch on West Grand Traverse Bay.

The Weekly Fishing League takes place most Wednesday nights through out the summer at different ports across Northern Michigan. The first night of the league is an all-species night on West Grand Traverse Bay. Entry is $10 each night per registered angler. Anglers are welcome to fish the league for points or only show up for a couple nights.

Registration will start at 5 p.m. at the launch. Fishing will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. on West Bay, with weigh-in after fishing. Heaviest fish wins. Payouts are determined by the number of entries, and the top three largest fish win cash prizes. First place also wins a trophy. Lions to hold youth camp in TC

ALLEN PARK — The Detroit Lions have announced their 2013 Summer Youth Football Camp schedule.

It includes 29 camps in 26 cities from June to August. The camps are open to boys and girls ages 4-18, are non-contact and designed to improve beginning, intermediate and advanced skill levels. Each camp is limited to the first 70 participants to register and is conducted by professional educators from the collegiate and high school ranks.

The communities hosting camps include Grand Blanc; Grand Rapids; Midland; Traverse City; and Sylvania, Ohio.

 

Mancelona golf scramble scheduled

MANCELONA — A golf scramble to benefit Mancelona schools will be held May 18 at Deer Run Golf Club.

The Ironmen Golf Scramble costs $200 per four-player team, with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
