Dual art exhibit

GLEN ARBOR — The Glen Arbor Art Association will sponsor an exhibit of work by photographer Jim Jacoby of Livonia and oil painter David Westerfield of Glenview, Ill.

The exhibit opens with a reception from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30, at the Art Association, 6031 S. Lake St. It continues from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 1. To learn more, call 334-6112.

Drag race benefit

BOYNE CITY — The Boyne City Police Department’s 10th anniversary Drag Race fund-raising event will be held Sunday, Sept. 1.

The side-by-side one-eighth mile drags will be held from noon to 5 p.m. at the Boyne City Airport. Vehicle registration opens at 8:30 a.m. Race entry fees are $30 for cars, trucks and motorcycles. Open headers and slicks are allowed.

Dine out for BACN

BENZIE COUNTY — On Tuesday, Sept. 3, the community can enjoy a dinner out and help Benzie Area Christian Neighbors.

A portion of each dinner check on that date at the Bayview Grille on Main Street in Frankfort or the Brookside Inn on U.S. 31 in Beulah will benefit BACN, the largest food and clothing pantry in Benzie County.

‘Simply Give’ match

GRAND RAPIDS — Meijer will double match every customer’s $10 Simply Give donation made from Thursday, Sept. 5, through Saturday, Sept. 7, in support of Hunger Action Month.

The Simply Give program runs three times a year for about 10 weeks. The fall 2013 campaign runs through Sept. 28. The program encourages customers to purchase $10 Meijer Food Pantry Donation Cards, which are then converted into Meijer gift cards and given to the local food pantry selected by the store. Throughout Double Match Days, for every $10 donation card purchase, Meijer will give $20 to the program, resulting in a total $30 donation.
