TRAVERSE CITY — Guest host Doug Stanton will visit with debut novelist Jason Matthews tonight, May 22, at the City Opera House, 106 E. Front St.
Matthews is the author of the international spy novel "Red Sparrow." The National Writers Series program will start at 7 p.m.; the doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets are $20 in advance at www.cityoperahouse.org or 941-8082. Tickets at the door are $25. A $38 ticket includes admission, a pre-signed copy of "Red Sparrow" and a pre-event reception with the author, pending his availability.
TRAVERSE CITY — The Grand Traverse Area Parkinson's Support Group will meet at 10 a.m. today, May 22, at the Senior Center, 801 E. Front St., to discuss future programs and the June 6 Summer Forum.

TRAVERSE CITY — The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Grand Traverse will host local filmmaker Leo Hagedorn's film "Looking for the Missing Link Between Faith and Reason."
The film deals with Young Earth creationism and evolutionary science. It will be shown at 7 p.m. today, May 22, at the UUCGT, 6726 Center Road. Discussion will follow. For details, call 947-3117.
Kayak for a Cause
PETOSKEY — All kayakers are invited to the Kayak for a Cause Launch Party on Thursday, May 23.
The event will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. at Mackinaw Trails Winery, U.S. 31 south of Petoskey, with wine, food and entertainment. Attendees can meet other kayakers, sponsors of the Kayak for a Cause on Walloon Lake and team members who will participate in the July 20-21 event. Team registration also will be available. All proceeds benefit Camp Daggett's Adventure Program.
