Early Fourth

THOMPSONVILLE — Celebrate Independence Day early the old fashioned way today, July 3, at Crystal Mountain’s Old-Fashioned 4th.

Activities include a Family Golf Scramble with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.; a family carnival from 5 to 9 p.m. and fireworks at dusk over Crystal Mountain. Festivities continue Thursday, July 4, with tubing, biking, golf, family campfires and more.

Music in the park

BENZIE COUNTY — Music will fill the evening air in Elberta and Frankfort this summer.

Concerts in the park will be held on Wednesdays, July 3-Aug. 28, under the amphitheatre at Waterfront Park in Elberta, and Fridays, July 5-Aug. 30, at Mineral Springs Park, Frankfort. All performances are free and start at 7 p.m.

The concerts are sponsored by Frankfort-Elberta Chamber of Commerce, Benzie County Convention & Visitors Bureau, Betsie River Campsite, Dinghy’s Restaurant & Bar and State Savings Bank. For details, call 352-7251 or visit www.frankfort-elberta.com.

History group meets

FIFE LAKE — Craig Bridson will share photos of Fife Lake from the 1890s to the 1920s at the Friday, July 5, meeting of the Fife Lake Historical Society.

The group will meet at 7 p.m. at the Fife Lake Public Library, 77 Lakecrest Lane. The public is invited.

Sunset concert

ELK RAPIDS — Phil Marcus Esser will open the Sunday Sunset Concert series.

Esser will perform at 8 p.m. Sunday, July 7, at the Edward C. Grace Memorial Upper Harbor. There is no charge. The public is welcome and attendees should bring their own seating.

Parking is available in the Cedar Street lot about one block from the harbor. Concerts continue on Sundays through July 28.

Torch area potluck

EASTPORT — The Upper Torch Lake Association will hold its monthly potluck dinner on Monday, July 8.

A social hour at 6 p.m. will be followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m. at the Torch Lake Township Community Services building on U.S. 31. All area residents are welcome. Attendees should bring a favorite beverage, table service and a dish to share along with a list of its ingredients.
