Prep Sports Roundup: TC West wins Big North crown

PETOSKEY — Traverse City West clinched the Big North Conference girls soccer title with two league games remaining on Tuesday after defeating Petoskey 3-0.

Kiley Kreple, Madison Jenner and Jordan Balhorn had goals for the Titans, who led 2-0 at the half. Kreple chipped in wtih two assists and Eva Brunetti also had an assist.

West (13-1-1, 10-0 BNC) took control from the start and got on the board with two goals near the midpoint of the first half. The Titans tacked on an insurance goal midway through the second half.

Maggie Troost made one save in goal.

West took the junior varsity game 4-1.

West’s goals came from Stephanie Devries, Claire Bergin, Mary-Kate Rose and Katrina Basel. Rose had two assists and Bergin added one assist. Kaylie Camp made three saves in goal.

Grayling 3

East Jordan 0

Courtney Hatfield had a goal and two points to lead Grayling to a 3-0 shutout Lake Michigan Conference win over East Jordan.

Tandy Mitchell and Sarah Lewis also had goals for the Vikings, while Hailey Eames stopped all six shots she faced to earn the shutout.

Grayling (4-8, 4-7 LMC) hosts Kalkaska on Friday.

TC Central JV 2

TC Bulldogs 1

Greta Grootuis scored 29 seconds into the game as Traverse City Central’s JV team won 2-1 against the Traverse City Bulldogs home school team.

Dana Pflughoeft assisted Groothuis’ goal, and Emma Kosch added another goal with 20:39 left before halftime.

Molly Plamondon added a penalty-kick goal for the Bulldogs (5-4-2), and Sarah Plamondon made nine saves.

Abby Green made four saves for Central (9-5-1).

BASEBALL

Suttons Bay 3 3

Mesick 0 1

Aaron Orban drove in Logan Mikesell with the go-ahead run in the fifth inning as Suttons Bay went on to defeat Mesick 3-1 in the second game of a doubleheader. The Norsemen took the first game as well, 3-0.

Mikesell had reached base on a hit before Orban’s clutch single. Casey Cross added a double for Suttons Bay (13-4-1, 6-0-1 Northwest).
