Nurse documentary

TRAVERSE CITY — As part of Nurses Week, all area registered nurses, their families and anyone interested in a career in nursing is invited to a screening of the documentary “The American Nurse: A Documentary.”

The film will be shown at 6 p.m. today, May 14, at the State Theatre, 233 E. Front St. Admission is free.

Genealogists

BENZONIA — The Benzie Area Genealogical Society will meet today, May 14, at the Benzie Area Historical Museum, 6941 Traverse Ave.

The meeting starts at 2 p.m. Lin Meeker will introduce new technology including uses for Snag-It, Evernote, digitizing slides, and Schrivener. She also will give an update on the National Genealogical Society Conference. Handouts will be available.

Fill the cupboard

ELK RAPIDS — The final day to contribute to the fifth annual “Fill the Cupboard! Feed The Minds!” food drive is Thursday, May 15.

For every non-perishable food item collected, the Village Market will donate $1 to Elk Rapids Schools to support innovations in education. The goal is to collect 3,000 items, which results in a $3,000 donation to the schools.

Class of ’57 meets

TRAVERSE CITY — The Traverse City Central High School class of 1957 will meet for lunch from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Thursday, May 15, at the Elks Club, 625 Bay St. Lunch orders will be taken at 11:30 a.m. All class of 1957 alumni are welcome.

Author program

TRAVERSE CITY — Peg Jonkhoff, co-author of the new book “Perry Hannah’s Gifts, Then and Now,” will give a free program on Hannah Thursday, May 15, at the Senior Center Network, 801 E. Front St.

Jonkhoff will talk about Hannah’s many gifts of land and buildings, how they were first used and how they are used and enjoyed today at 5 p.m. An optional after-program mystery dinner location is planned for those interested in continuing the history-related entertainment.
