Antrim County bodies still unidentified

MANCELONA — Antrim County investigators await DNA results to positively identify two men found dead inside a tent in Custer Township.

A group of people on a search for deer antlers came across the tent April 30 in a rural area off Doerr Road. Authorities didn't find any signs of foul play and believe the bodies were inside the tent since the fall.

Antrim County Sheriff Dan Bean acknowledged rumors swirling about the victims' identities, but said the bodies are in such a condition that forensic examiners in Grand Rapids needed to conduct DNA tests.

"I want to make sure we're positive," he said. "There's enough decomposition that we need to make sure what we got."

Bean said it could be another week until results are known.
