Prep Sports Roundup: Late rallies propel Christian to sweep

TRAVERSE CITY — Jacob Rorick squeezed in Cam Beemer with the game-winning run in the bottom of the sixth as Traverse City Christian edged McBain Northern Michigan Christian 7-6 in the first of two games.

Rorick drove in two runs and Beemer scored three in the win. Kevin Mannes collected two hits. Dennis Alekseyenko earned the win in relief.

Christian scored five runs in the fourth and final inning to take the nightcap 5-4. Jon Wilhelm’s two-run single proved the game-winner. Grant Maurer also had a two-run single in the inning. Devyn Richards picked up the win in relief.

Suttons Bay 11 6

Benzie Central 6 5

Logan Mikesell got the win in the first game and Trevor Petrosky got the victory in the second game as Suttons Bay swept Benzie Central in a twinbill, 11-6 and 6-5.

Mikesell allowed six hits and fanned four. He helped his cause by going 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored. Zack Rice and Petrosky each went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs and Casey Cross was 1-for-4 with two RBIs.

Austin Ross doubled and tripled, driving in a run and scoring three for Benzie (0-13). Jared Roeske and Kenny Kocevar each were 1-for-3 with two RBIs and Patrick Brautigam was 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Suttons Bay (5-0) scored four runs in the fourth inning of the nightcap and held on for the win. Petrosky struck out nine, scattered nine hits and walked three. Shamus McGill and Petrosky each had RBI hits and Aaron Orban drove in a run as well.

Ross led Benzie with four hits and scored three times. Roeske doubled among his three hits and drove in one run, while Kocevar had a double and two RBIs.

Nick LaCoste pitched one-hit ball over five innings, striking out seven, as the Traverse City West freshmen beat Petoskey 15-1 in the first of two games.
