It takes a community to bring the National Cherry Festival to life. Mt. Pleasant resident Gregory Janes worked alongside his mother, Patty, a faculty member in the Hospitality and Tourism Management program at of Grand Valley State, to take pictures and pass out information about a festival survey.
This was Gregory's first time attending the festival. He worked several days as an ambassador and served ice cream, worked at the Kids Club area, and helped his mom.
"It's really fun," he said. "There are a lot of things you can do." He said he enjoyed the "bonding time" he had while working with his mom the most.
To avoid the long commute, Gregory and his mom stayed with his grandparents for the festival week. With her expertise in the tourism industry, Patty was impressed by the number of volunteers it took to bring the festival together and how the festival supported the community both economically and socially.
"It's an honor and a privilege to work with other ambassadors and volunteers," Patty said. "The organization is top-notch."
