TRAVERSE CITY — A Traverse City man walked into an emergency room after he shot himself in an apparent suicide attempt, police said.
Traverse City police Detective Sgt. Jim Bussell said the Monday evening shooting incident involved a 67-year-old man. He said it appears the man shot himself in the mouth with a .32-caliber Smith & Wesson revolver.
“At this point, there’s no reason to think it’s anything other than an attempted suicide,” Bussell said.
The incident occurred Monday about 10 p.m. inside the victim’s West Eighth Street home. The victim’s wife found him injured inside their garage and drove him to Munson Medical Center.
“They walked into the emergency room together,” Bussell said.
Bussell said the victim’s injuries prevented him from talking with officers. He called the man’s wife “very cooperative” and said she told officers that her husband recently experienced “problems.”
Doctors took the man into the hospital’s intensive care unit, Bussell said.
