Man sentenced to prison for sex crimes

SUTTONS BAY — A Traverse City man is headed to prison after he pleaded guilty to sex crime charges.

Stanley E. Thompson, 73, on Monday received a 14- to 24-month sentence on a fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct charge. Leelanau County sheriff’s detectives in November began an investigation into an allegation he had sexual contact with a child under 13 years old.

Thompson originally was charged with second-degree criminal sexual conduct, a 15-year felony, but pleaded guilty to the lesser charge in June after the case was bound over to 13th Circuit Court. He will serve his sentence in Southern Michigan Prison in Jackson.
