Parkinson’s picnic

TRAVERSE CITY — The Parkinson’s Support Group summer picnic will start at 11 a.m. today, June 26, at the Traverse City Senior Center, 801 E. Front St. Attendees should bring their own table service and their dish to pass. A review of the Summer Forum also will be held. For details call 947-7389 or 947-1946.

Party and concert

ACME — The Music House Museum will host a “Coming Out Party” for its Mortier Dance Organ and the annual Northwestern Michigan College Band Concert on the Lawn.

The event on Thursday, June 27, will take place on the museum’s lawn, 7377 U.S. 31 North. It opens at 6:30 p.m. with demonstrations of the newly restored organ followed at 7:30 p.m. by the NMC Concert Band performance. The musical theme is “American Roots.” Additional demonstrations will follow the concert.

Heritage group

EMPIRE — The Empire Area Heritage Group will meet Thursday, June 27, at 1 p.m. at the Empire Museum Complex to finalize summer plans and schedule summer programs. The public is invited.

Plein Air event

LELAND — The Fishtown Preservation Society invites to the public to join them for a Plein Air event on Saturday and Sunday, June 29-30.

The event is designed to showcase artists capturing scenic Fishtown. Participants must use paint pencil or oil on the 2-D medium of their choice and may submit a maximum of two exhibit-ready works.

On Sunday, art will be displayed and available to purchase during a reception at 5:30 p.m. at Main Street Gallery. A People’s Choice award will be presented at 7 p.m. Artists receive 60 percent of their sales, and the Fishtown Preservation Society receives 40 percent.

Barbershop concert

LELAND — The Grand Traverse Show Chorus of Sweet Adelines will present a barbershop-style concert on Friday, June 28, at the Leland Schools Performing Arts Center.

The 7 p.m. concert will benefit Leelanau Christian Neighbors and the Chorus. Tickets are $10 each and available at Two Fish Gallery in Leland or at the door. For details, call 933-0729 or visit www.grandtraversechorus.org.

Adult summer reading

TRAVERSE CITY - Peninsula Community Library’s Summer Reading Club offers adults a do-it-yourself “X Marks the Spot” bingo game.

The program kicks off Monday, July 1, and a completed card earns a gift card for an ice-cream cone from Buchan’s. The first 30 patrons who turn in their form also receive a book tote. The program concludes at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 12, with a program about the groundbreaking for the new visitor’s center at the Botanical Gardens of Northwest Michigan. There also will be a drawing for a Botanical Garden membership and a basket from Garden Goods.
