Traverse City Record-Eagle

---- — WASHINGTON, Pa. — Make it six in a row for the Traverse City Beach Bums.

Sparked by the hitting of Taylor Wrenn and the pitching of Jacob Clem, Traverse City continued its winning ways Tuesday night, defeating the Washington Wild Things 6-2 in a Frontier League contest at Consol Energy Park.

Wrenn finished with three hits and three RBIs, extending his hit streak to 21 games, while Clem allowed two runs on eight hits in 6 1-3 innings on the mound.

The Beach Bums are now 17-11, two games behind Evansville in the East Division.

Traverse City never trailed after scoring a run in the first when Wrenn singled, moved to third on a two-base error and scored on a Jose Vargas double.

The lead went to 3-0 in the third when Chase Burch belted a two-run home run, his fourth in the last four games.

Two innings later, Wren doubled in Ryan Still, who had singled, to make it 4-0.

After Washington put two runs on the board in the seventh, chasing Clem, the Beach Bums restored their four-run lead when Wrenn went deep with a runner on in the ninth.

Meanwhile, relief pitchers Chris Squires and Nick Capito pitched 2 2-3 innings of scoreless ball to nail down the win. Clem improved to 4-3, while Gary Lee took the loss, bringing his record to 2-2.

Wrenn’s hit streak ties him for second place on the Beach Bums all-time list, matching Matt Brown who hit in 21 straight in 2011.

Traverse City had eight hits in the game — all by the first four batters in the lineup. Still and Burch finished with two hits.

The teams square off again tonight with Scott Dunn (5-0, 2.52) getting the call for the Beach Bums and Anthony Collazo (0-1, 2.30) for Washington.
