Ruth E. Wheelock

TRAVERSE CITY — Ruth Evelyn Wheelock, 83, of Traverse City, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2012 at Munson Hospice House.

Ruth was born June 10, 1929, to the late Andrew and Laudra (Snyder) Mattison of Cadillac. In her teenage years she was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis, and her Christian faith kept her strong and helped her endure many years of the effects of this disease. Ruth was married to Leonard Wheelock and together they raised three sons. Throughout her life, her sons always remained her priority, and in recent years her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her much pride and joy.

Ruth retired from Milliken Medical Center after many years as office manager. She was grateful for her many blessings, and for that reason she regularly donated to multiple charities and to those less fortunate.

Ruth is survived by her longtime companion, Edward Bennett; her sons, Gregory Doornbos, Daniel Doornbos and his wife Tammy of Traverse City, and Dennis Doornbos of Grand Rapids; her grandchildren, Andrew Doornbos and his wife Melissa, Jenna Doornbos, and Christopher Doornbos; and her great-granddaughters Madison and Lily Doornbos. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Leonard Wheelock.

At Ruth's request, no formal services will be held. Interment will be at the Maple Hill Cemetery in Cadillac, next to her late husband. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Arthritis Foundation, 3737 Lake Eastbrook SE #217, Grand Rapids, MI 49546-5989 or by visiting www.arthritis.org

A special thank you to Dr. Warnaar, Dr. VanderKolk, and Dr. Mikula, as well as the nurses and aides at Munson Medical Center ER, ICU, 7th and 4th Floors, Grand Traverse Pavilions Rehab, and Munson Hospice for your care and compassion throughout the last weeks of her life.

Please share your condolences and thoughts with the family by way of Ruth's online guest book at tribute page at www.reynolds-jonkhoff.com

The family is being served by Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
