Vincinia E. McCarthy

---- — BINGHAM TWP. — Vincinia "Vinn" E. McCarthy, 91, of Bingham Twp., passed away peacefully on Feb. 4, 2013, at Munson Medical Center. Vinn was born on June 23, 1921, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the daughter of John and Vincinia (Ballard) Dierks.

Vinn graduated from Marymount College in Tarrytown, N.Y., with a degree in sociology.

She married her best friend and soulmate, Danny McCarthy, and they were just short of their 65th anniversary when Danny passed away in 2008.

In 2010 her children convinced her to move out of the 'big house' on Long Island, and she spent the last three years residing with her daughter, Cathy and son-in-law, Tommy, in Leelanau County. Arriving in Suttons Bay in her red shoes and handbag she remarked that she was now "a long way from Broadway" but settled in quite nicely and grew to love the area's rolling hills and meadows, and commented that she should have moved here long ago.

She was an avid Notre Dame fan, was thoroughly hooked on NCIS and still loved to read the Wall Street Journal.

Vinn was a devoted mother to Janet (Bill) Cunningham, Cathy (Tommy) McCarthy-Holmes, Jack (Michelle) McCarthy, the late Vincina McCarthy and the late Kevin McCarthy. She was "Grandy" to Catie (David) Hill, Billy Cunningham, Erin Cunningham, Devin (McKenzie) Holmes, Nealie Holmes, Danny Holmes, Danielle (Kris) Steigerwald and John "Mac" McCarthy; and "Great Grandy" to Sadie Hill and Vivienne Steigerwald.

Visitation will be held on Friday, Feb. 8, from 5 to 8 p.m., with the rosary to be prayed at 7 p.m., at the Martinson Funeral Home of Suttons Bay. The funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, Feb. 9, at 10 a.m., at St. Michael's Church in Suttons Bay. The Rev. Leonard Paul will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Vincinia's name to Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers, PO Box 304, Maryknoll, NY 10545.
