Renee Yvonne Majszak

TOWNSEND, Mont. — Renee Yvonne Majszak passed away peacefully on the evening of Jan. 21, 2013, after a long, difficult battle with colon cancer.

Renee was born on April 13, 1963, the youngest of four children, to Harry "Chick" and Esther Baker Paupore in Taipan, Taiwan, where Chick served in the Air Force. As a young girl, Renee's father was transferred to Virginia, where Renee lived until she was nine, upon which time she moved with her family to Lake Leelanau.

It was while living in Michigan that Renee discovered her love of horses and horseback riding. She indulged her newfound passion in any way she could - training show horses, show-jumping and Western riding. At the age of 16, Renee and her family moved once again, this time to Maple City, where she would attend Glen lake Community High School. It was there, at a fall dance, after being stood up by her date, that Renee would meet her future husband, Richard Majszak.

After graduating high school, Renee enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served her country proudly for two years at Persuppdet Naval Station, R.I., where she was a seaman apprentice. Renee always remembered her time in military service fondly.

At the conclusion of her time in the Navy Renee lived briefly in New Orleans before returning to Michigan, where she reunited with Richard and married him. Four children, Jordan, Shane, Autumn and Aquielle, blessed their family shortly afterward.

Following the death of her father, Harry, Renee and her family - including her mother, Esther - moved to Helena, Mont., in 1996, where they lived until 1997 when the family moved to nearby Townsend, Mont. It was there that Renee's children would attend school and the family would find solace in the loving arms of a caring community.

In Townsend, Renee enjoyed her role as what she liked to call the "Neighborhood Mom," caring for her children as well as their complex and lengthy social network of friends. Children and happiness were always abundant in the Majszak household and Renee acted as a mentor and guiding light to the children who spent time there.

In Townsend, Renee was once again able to indulge her passion and love for horses - a joy that she would now share with her children in the care of her small herd of horses. In addition to horsemanship Renee shared her love of cinema, literature and the arts with her children. Movie quotations were abundant in conversation, and Renee shared her favorite books with friends and family.

Renee lived to see all four of her children graduate high school, and three of them attend college at MSU in Bozeman, Mont., which made her proud to wear the blue and gold.

In December 2010 she was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. She passed away peacefully on the evening of Jan. 21, 2013, with family at her bedside.

She was preceded in death by her father, Harry; her mother, Esther; and her eldest brother, John.

She is survived by her husband, Richard; her brothers, Tim and Alec; and her four children, Jordan, Shane, Autumn and Aquielle.

A funeral Mass was held Saturday, Jan. 26, at 1 p.m., at the Holy Cross Church, 101 S. Walnut, in Townsend, MT.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the account of Richard and Renee Majszak at American Federal Savings Bank to help the family pay for funeral expenses.
