WEST BRANCH — Traverse City Central snapped a six-game losing streak Tuesday night with a 47-36 Big North Conference win at Ogemaw Heights.

"We needed this," Trojan coach Jeff Turner said. "It was a good team effort."

Central trailed 12-7 after the first quarter, but then held the Falcons to 24 points the rest of the game.

"To hold them to three single-digit quarters is a compliment to our defense," Turner said.

Taylor Cook paced the Trojans with 18 points. Ethan Pilarski added nine points, nine rebounds, five assists and four steals.

Central (2-6, 2-1) was 8 of 12 at the foul line in the fourth quarter. The game was tied 29-29 entering the final quarter.

Cam Zettel's 12 points topped Ogemaw Heights.

The Trojans won the JV game 58-13, but dropped the freshman contest 35-30 in overtime.

BOYS HOOPS

Charlevoix      67 East Jordan      52

Charlevoix set up a Lake Michigan Conference showdown of league unbeatens with a 67-52 victory over East Jordan.

The Rayders (5-0, 3-0 LMC) travel Saturday to St. Francis for a rescheduled 6 p.m. clash.

Tanner Catt had 19 points and five assists as Charlevoix led 34-26 at halftime and extended that lead to 16 by the start of the fourth quarter.

Zach Hankins added 13 points and 16 rebounds.

Noah Bacchus scored 13 and Joseph Manville 12 for East Jordan.

Elk Rapids      52 Boyne City      50

Elk Rapids held off a late Boyne City rally for a 52-50 Lake Michigan Conference win.

The Elks (4-3, 2-2) were up 13 with three minutes to go.

Austin McMullen led the Elks with 14 points and seven rebounds. Cole Walker added 11 points and six rebounds.

Corey Redman tossed in 27 points for Boyne City.

The Elks host Lake Leelanau St. Mary on Friday.

Glen Lake      66 Kingsley      47

Glen Lake took control early, building a 14-point lead at the break, en route to a 66-47 Northwest Conference win over Kingsley.

Mike O'Brien paced the Lakers (6-1, 3-0) with 23 points. Curtis Bunek added 18 and Carter Lee 12.

Travis DeBello led Kingsley with 14 points.

Glen Lake travels to Leland on Friday.

Frankfort      55 Leland      49

David Loney had a double-double as Frankfort remained unbeaten with a 55-49 Northwest Conference win over Leland.

Loney finished with 24 points and 20 rebounds. Brandon Schaub added 16 points for the Panthers (5-0, 3-0).

Dylan Jolliffe topped Leland with 16 points. Ian Duval had 14.

Both teams were shorthanded — A.J. Whittaker was out for Leland and Owen Stratton for Frankfort.

Frankfort, which led 24-14 at half, travels to Mesick on Thursday.

Benzie Central      72 Suttons Bay      60

Corey Weaver broke loose for 32 points and 18 rebounds as Benzie Central notched its first win of the season with a 72-60 victory over Suttons Bay.

Ismael Halaweh and Aaron Whaley added 14 points each and Corey Bock had 10 for the Huskies (1-4, 1-2 Northwest Conference).

Logan Mikesell scored 16, Guy Beachnau 14, Aaron Orban 12 and Devon Capron 11 for the Norsemen (1-4), who received a sportsmanship award prior to their home opener from the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan.

Benzie hosts Kingsley on Thursday.

Mesick      41 Buckley      39

Mesick scored in the closing seconds off a turnover to edge Buckley 41-39 in a Northwest Conference game.

Thane Herbert netted 21 points for the Bulldogs.

Austin Burmania led Buckley (0-6) with 18. The Bears travel to Suttons Bay on Thursday.

Forest Area      50 Inland Lakes      42

Justin Burke and Austin Vance each scored 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead Forest Area to a 50-42 Ski Valley Conference win over Inland Lakes.

Senior Ryan Boone scored five first-quarter points as the Warriors opened up an 18-8 lead and kept around a 10-point advantage most of the contest.

Scott Sedwick added nine points for Forest Area (4-1, 3-0 SVC), which travels Thursday to Mancelona.

Dakota Davedowski led Inland Lakes with 17 points.

Bellaire      75 Joburg-Lewiston      37

Bellaire led 35-16 at halftime and left no doubt with a 27-7 third-quarter run in a 75-37 Ski Valley Conference victory over Johannesburg-Lewiston.

Denny Hall led the Eagles — who hadn't played since Dec. 13 — with 19 points and five assists, while Mitch Teetzel added 13 points and six rebounds, Tyler Thornton pitched in 15 points and Drew Bailey registered 11 points and seven boards.

Bellaire (4-0, 2-0 SVC) hosts Gaylord St. Mary on Thursday.

Logan Huff and Coalton Huff led Joburg with eight points each, and Jacob Newell scored seven.

Mancelona      66 Onaway      53

Mancelona handed Onaway its first loss of the season with a 66-53 Ski Valley Conference decision.

Brandon Dingman piled up 32 points and added 14 rebounds and four assists. Brandon Scott contributed 14 points and nine rebounds. Logan Borst and Dingman helped slow down Onaway's top scorers.

Jan O'Bradovich led the Cardinals (5-1, 4-1 SVC) with 16 points.

McBain NMC      66 Northport      51

Trevor Gernaat scored 30 points to lead McBain Northern Michigan Christian to a 66-51 non-conference win over Northport.

Matt Pluger added 14 for NMC.

Bill Stowe paced Northport, which was playing without head coach Todd Huck, who was out with the flu. Girls basketball coach Nathan Kalchick filled in.

Jacob Brown and Zac Kalchik added 10 points each for the Wildcats, who host Traverse City Christian on Friday.

Manistee CC      62 B.R. Crossroads      30

Zack Bialik's 21 points and four steals led Manistee Catholic to a 62-30 West Michigan D League win over Big Rapids Crossroads Academy.

Ben Feliczak added 13 points and 12 rebounds and Andrew Perry 11 points for the Sabers (4-2, 3-1).

Bear Lake      52 MC Eastern      46

Bear Lake improved to 4-1 with a 52-46 West Michigan D League win over Mason County Eastern.

Nick Streeter netted 16 for Bear Lake (3-1 in the league). Riley Merrill pulled down 11 rebounds.

Austin Martin had 18 for Mason County Eastern.

Mackinaw City      49 Ellsworth      36

Ellsworth dropped its Northern Lake Conference opener with a 49-36 setback to league foe Mackinaw City.

Nate Veldboom led the Lancers (0-4, 0-1 NLC) with 14 points.

GIRLS HOOPS

TC Central      51 Ogemaw Heights      37

Tyler Rawlings scored 15 points and Traverse City Central improved to 2-1 in Big North Conference play with a 51-37 win over Ogemaw heights.

Jesse Hiemstra added 12 points and Madi Bankey 11.

The Trojans (2-6, 2-1 BNC) travel Monday to Petoskey for a make-up game.

Kayla Marshall led Ogemaw with 10 points.

Central won the JV matchup 51-29 as Kelsey Acton scored 13 points.

The Trojans also claimed the freshman contest, 42-16, led by Sierra Fraser's 16-point game.

Petoskey      35 TC West      17

Megan Tompkins scored 13 points and Kelsey Ance 12 as Petoskey handed Traverse City West a 35-17 Big North Conference setback.

Katie Placek led the Titans (2-6, 2-1) with five points and 11 rebounds. Paris Wagner had six rebounds.

Petoskey (6-2, 2-1) led 14-10 at half.

Petoskey won the JV game 32-26. Kalyn Havens tallied nine points for the Titans. West won the freshman game 33-23 behind 15 points from Mikenna Mattson.

West hosts Gaylord on Friday.

Elk Rapids      62 Boyne City      47

Rachel Hintz and Paige Granger sparked Elk Rapids to a 62-47 Lake Michigan Conference win over Boyne City.

Hintz finished with 19 points and 11 rebounds while Granger contributed 17 points and 11 rebounds. Michelle Costa chipped in 10 points for the Elks (4-3, 3-1).

Rainy McCune netted 15 for Boyne City.

The Elks host Kalkaska next Tuesday.

Gaylord St. Mary      57 Harbor Springs      28

Gaylord St. Mary held Harbor Springs scoreless over a 10-minute stretch during a 57-28 non-conference victory over Harbor Springs.

Christina Smith led the Snowbirds with 17 points and six steals, while Kari Borowiak added 11 points and Sarah Long 10 points.

Layne Compton led the Rams with seven points.

St. Mary (7-2, 5-1 SVC) hosts Mancelona today.

McBain      73 McBain NMC      31

Sophomore point guard Meredith Hamlet generated a triple-double as McBain defeated cross-town rival Northern Michigan Christian 73-31 in Highland play.

Hamlet tamed the twine for a game-high 19 points to go with 16 rebounds and 10 assists. Junior guard Kara Hughston hit for 15 with six steals and Keiana Westdorp came off the bench to score 14 for McBain (4-3, 3-1) and she also grabbed eight boards. Senior T.K. Overmyer tallied eight and center Katelyn Loeks pulled down 10 rebounds.

Freshman forward Sarah Pluger scored 10 to pace the Comets (4-4, 1-3) and junior Emma Towers hit for nine.
