Area hoops game highlights online

LANSING — Several area basketball games will be available on shortly after their conclusion.

The student-produced highlights are viewable on demand on the Michigan High School Athletic Association's

Tuesday night's Fore Area at Inland Lakes and East Jordan at Charlevoix boys basketball games and the Traverse City West at Petoskey girls basketball contest will be on's sports on TV.

Other upcoming games scheduled to be included are today's Mackinaw City at Ellsworth girls hoops games, Thursday's Alba at Ellsworth boys basketball, Friday's Cheboygan at Rogers City boys basketball, Jan. 14 Charlevoix at Cheboygan girls hoops and Jan. 15 Boyne Falls at Ellsworth and Charlevoix at Petoskey boys basketball.

TC Central's Cook earns NFCA honor

OLIVET — Traverse City Central and 2012 Olivet College graduate Rachel Cook earned National Fastpitch Coaches Association Scholar-Athlete honors for the 2011-12 academic year.

Student-athletes must have a 3.5 or higher grade point average for the entire academic year to qualify for the award.

Cook completed her fourth season of softball for the Comets in 2012. She posted a 22-29 record and 3.29 ERA in 308.1 innings for Olivet during her four-year career. Cook struck out 131 batters and walked only 70. Her best season in a Comet uniform was her freshman campaign in 2009 when she had 11 wins to go along with 52 strikeouts in 113.1 innings.

Cook returned to Olivet in Aug. 2012 and is serving as a graduate assistant in the strength and conditioning department.

Kingsley's Berreth scores 15 for JCC

JACKSON — Kingsley grad Stephanie Berreth busted out for 15 points in Jackson Community College's 120-94 Monday win over Ancilla College.

Berreth scored all 15 of her points on 3-pointers.

The Jets are 8-7 this season and 2-0 in the Michigan Community College Athletic Association.

Northstars U-19 to host Showcase

TRAVERSE CITY — Northstars girls U-19 hockey team will be playing a Showcase Game against Marquette's U-19 team.

The contest is slated for 9:15 p.m. at Centre ICE, following the 7 p.m. contest between the Bay Reps and Alpena.
