Won't be a dictatorship
Stand with Obama? No way. Unemployment is about the same as four years ago. Gasoline prices have more than doubled from four years ago. The national debt is far worse than four years ago. Church-run hospitals are forced to provide services that go against their religious beliefs (Obama lied when he said he would defend religious liberty). Obamacare will tax everybody to financial ruin. And the world is closer to nuclear holocaust since the Cold War.
Romney may not become a model president, but he will see to it the U.S. does not become a dictatorship. Romney or ruin.
Helping young voters
In reference to the Record-Eagle's Sept. 28 editorial, "Bipartisan voter info priceless," I would like to add some words of thanks to the League of Women Voters of Grand Traverse and Leelanau Counties from the librarians at NMC's Osterlin Library. Concerned that it will be difficult for our out-of-town students to navigate the absentee ballot process, we decided to staff a voter information table in the library one day last week. The continuous stream of students convinced us we needed informed people at the table every day until the Oct. 9 voter registration deadline.
One e-mail from Mary Beeker, a librarian who is active in the League, and we had more than enough volunteers. No campaigning, no party politics — just informed, committed citizens willing to get a new generation registered and voting.
We are thrilled that there will be dozens more NMC students at the polls on Nov. 6 because of the LWV.
