Obama is no JFK

Fifty years ago John Kennedy, a Democrat, inspired us with, “Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.” JFK messed up with the Bay of Pigs, for which he took blame and apologized, then his approval ratings went up to 80 percent. JFK believed in America and that the government should set goals and get out of the people’s way, so he lowered taxes, got the government to partner with the people and the nmddle class prospered and men walked on the Moon. JFK challenged Russia over supplying our enemies with missiles and Russia gave up. JFK believed America was a world leader, and it was.

Today we have Barack Obama, a progressive, who appears to be trying to get as many people as possible dependent on Washington. Fast and furious, Benghazi, IRS, the National Security Agency and the website for the Affordable Care Act are major failures and Obama has a list of groups to blame. His ratings are at a new low. Russia is supplying Syria and Iran and Obama leads from behind. He insists on raising taxes and the middle class suffers.

Obama is no JFK.

Protecting resources

Michigan’s Department of Environmental Quality recently completed a common-sense approach to updating its regulations on hydraulic fracturing. While much of what is proposed is already in practice, the proposed regulations nonetheless reinforce the fact that hydraulic fracturing in Michigan has occurred and will continue to occur with a high standard of safety.

Critics constantly tell us that hydraulic fracturing is inherently unsafe and must be banned, a talking point with no basis in fact. The procedure has been used in Michigan since the 1950s and has been successfully used over 11,000 times without any incident of groundwater contamination. Michigan regulators have consistently been at the forefront of protecting our state’s natural resources and facilitating the benefits associated with the development of oil and gas to accrue. The nearly 4,000 wells safely producing oil and gas in the Au Sable River basin attest to this fact.
