Missing man found

HONOR — Authorities located a Homestead Township man alive after his disappearance prompted a massive search operation through the Benzie County back country.

Sheriff Ted Schendel said Loyal Frederick, 83, was spotted by a civilian volunteer about 1 p.m. near Pioneer and Fewins roads.

"He's alive and conscious," Schendel said.

Frederick, who suffers from Alzheimer's disease and diabetes, had been missing since Tuesday and family and rescuers alike feared the worst. Schendel said Frederick will likely be transported to Munson Medical Center for treatment.
