Traverse City Police investigate a second flower shop break-in

Another downtown flower shop burgled

TRAVERSE CITY — The second downtown Traverse City flower shop in as many weeks was targeted in a break-in.

Teboe Florist on Monday reported a thief or thieves entered the Eighth Street business over the weekend and took cash from the register. Traverse City Police Capt. Brian Heffner said the crime appears similar to a string of break-ins at four Front Street business, including the Flower Station on West Front Stree , around Oct. 2.

“I can’t deny the similar facts in the case,” he said.

Tessa Alexander, owner of Teboe Florist, said the break-in occurred sometime before Monday at 2:30 a.m. when the suspect cut phone lines connected with the store’s security cameras. She said computer equipment and the store’s cash drawer were “destroyed.”

The suspect or suspects in the Oct. 2 break-ins attempted to damage surveillance equipment from Elite Dry Cleaners before moving toward the Flower Station and entering through a boarded window. They took cash and dozens of roses.

Alexander said it’s unclear how the suspect or suspects entered her store.

“Businesses probably need to bolster their security,” she said.
