---- — FRANKFORT — Snow melt combined with heavy rains flooded a woman’s home on M-115 and prompted local officials to closely monitor water levels throughout Benzie County.
The woman left and headed to a family member’s house after a foot of water invaded her residence Wednesday morning. The flooding is from an overflow of water at the Crystal Lake water outlet near Molineaux Road.
“There’s a lot of water out there — more than anyone can remember,” said county Drain Commissioner Christy Andersen.
Andersen said county workers Wednesday adjusted water flows at the outlet, which connects to the Betsie River. County Emergency Management Director Frank Post said Wednesday that river water levels throughout the county are being closely monitored, given all the precipitation that fell Tuesday and Wednesday. Post said flooding from the outlet could possibly threaten two other structures if waters continue to rise.
Officials were also watching the Platte River at U.S. 31. Post said water levels there “spiked... it went up about a foot and a half in a matter of an hour.”
