Brooks leads Cadillac to overtime win, Final Four berth

BIG RAPIDS — Jalen Brooks knocked down all four of his free throws in overtime to lead Cadillac to a 55-49 Class B quarterfinal victory over Big Rapids.

Brooks is going to Ferris State in Big Rapids next year for football, but showed the 2,400 fans in attendance for Tuesday’s game what he can do on the hardwood.

He ended with 27 points to pace the Vikings (19-6), who face Benton Harbor — a 68-61 winner of Wyoming Godwin Heights — in Friday’s semifinals at 6 p.m. at the Breslin Center.

Andrew Emington went 5 of 6 from the line in overtime, including two with 23 ticks remaining to give Cadillac at 54-49 lead. Emington ended with nine points.

Cadillac didn’t lead in the game until the third quarter. Big Rapids ended the season 18-5.

Jake Hayes added 10 points for Cadillac, while Justin Liptak chipped in 11.

Big Rapids senior Quinn Tyson, a Ferris State basketball recruit, scored 15 of his 21 points in the first half, but missed a short jumper as time expired that could have won the game.
