BUCKLEY — A Buckley bakery sustained severe damage after a fire caused a roof collapse.
Fire departments were dispatched Monday at about 6:15 p.m. on a report of a fire inside Patty Cakes Restaurant and Bakery on Wexford Avenue. Buckley Fire Department Chief Mike Guernsey said the blaze concentrated in the attic and “totaled” most of the building, with the kitchen and dining area taking the brunt.
“The roof actually caved in shortly after firefighters arrived on scene,” he said.
Three fire departments assisted Buckley, including Grand Traverse Rural Fire Department. Chief Theo Weber said the department sent eight firefighters over the Wexford County line under a mutual aid agreement.
“We just helped our neighbors just as they help us when we ask for their help,” Weber said.
Guernsey said the fire took about two hours to extinguish. He said the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
