GRAWN — Two Grawn men face criminal charges on accusations they got together to view child pornography.
Charles Gregory Martin Jr., 24, appeared by video for arraignment Tuesday in 86th District Court on five felony counts of possessing child sexually abusive material. His brother-in-law, Dakota Lee-Cody Salmons, 26, faces a warrant on the same charges, which are punishable by up to four years imprisonment.
A police report details Martin’s admission to a Grand Traverse County sheriff’s deputy that he often viewed child pornography with Salmons, who later admitted that he and Martin watched 10 to 15 different videos that depicted sexually abusive acts with children.
“Salmons admitted he thought a lot of the children in these videos were likely under the age of five,” court documents state.
A member of Martin’s and Salmons’ family declined comment when reached by a reporter.
The investigation began in December when Martin confided to a coworker that he needed help with an addiction to child pornography, the police report states. Martin told a sheriff’s deputy he watched the material with Salmons.
The police report states Salmons told a deputy he suspected Martin viewed child pornography on his personal computer. He eventually admitted he watched several videos with Martin while intoxicated and described himself as “very disgusted” that he’d done so .
Court documents state a sheriff’s detective with a background in digital forensics examined Martin’s and Salmons’ computers and found evidence of “several” child pornography images and videos.
Sheriff’s deputies arrested Martin on Monday. He remains in Grand Traverse County’s jail on a $250,000 cash or surety bond. A preliminary examination is scheduled for March 18.
