“Price is what you pay. Value is what you get.”
— Warren Buffett
That’s the driving philosophy behind our new business section, The Biz, which the Record-Eagle launched this morning. The Biz will offer local coverage of northern Michigan’s thriving business community every Wednesday. It’s a section that, without question, will offer the best business news coverage in the Grand Traverse region.
That’s our promise to you.
The Biz will be the third section of the paper every Wednesday and will offer themed coverage. Those themes include:
Young entrepreneurs — A focus on business people 40 and younger. Today we focus on Nate Crane and Tina Schuett, proprietors of the fledgling Rare Bird Brewpub, and what it takes to get such an endeavor up in running in the midst of Michigan’s craft beer boom.
Healthcare — Coverage of one of the most vibrant economic sectors of the region’s economy. From Munson Medical Center to home health care, we’ve got this beat covered.
Wine and spirits — We’ll follow the trends on everything from wine tastings to restaurants, bars, hops and hard liquor.
Mature entrepreneurs — We look at businesses run by entrepreneurs 50 and older. We’ll also examine the growing business services offered to seniors in the region.
Our Saturday agriculture page remains the same. Our Sunday business coverage will feel similar to the section we’ve offered since I took over as business editor four months ago, only better. Reporter Carol Thompson and I want to perform in-depth journalism that informs, educates and, most importantly, makes a difference.
We encourage you to contact us with business story ideas and news items like promotions, new business announcements and any other newsworthy items you think warrant coverage. See our guidelines for submissions on page C6.
