‘STEaM’ film fest

TRAVERSE CITY — Newton’s Road, a regional nonprofit organization committed to increasing access to and appreciation of science, technology, engineering and math education, will sponsor the Northern Michigan STEaM Film Festival.

Five films will be shown: “Hugo,” 7 p.m. Thursday, March 16, State Theatre; and “Apollo 13,” 9 a.m., “October Sky” noon, “Dolphin Tale” 2:30 p.m. and “Something the Lord Made” 5 p.m., all Saturday, May 18, in Milliken Auditorium, 1410 College Dr.

Also on Saturday, May 18, businesses who rely on a workforce with strong science, technology, engineering and/or math skills will be showcased from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Dennos Museum. There also will be a drawing for six scholarships for students who have completed ninth through 11th grades to attend Michigan Tech’s Summer Youth Program in Houghton. Eligible students will complete and submit entry forms at the exhibition and the drawing will be held at 5 p.m. in Milliken Auditorium.

The films are free, however tickets are required and are available on a first come, first served basis. Advance tickets are available at Traverse City 7-11 Stores, Ferguson Enterprises, Horizon Books and the Dennos Museum. Families may have a maximum of six tickets. Tickets will also be available on the days of the event at the venues if available. No tickets are required for the exhibition. For details, visit

Neighborhood meet

TRAVERSE CITY — The North Traverse Heights Neighborhood Association will meet on Thursday, May 16, at 6:30 p.m. at Traverse Heights Elementary School on Rose Street. All Traverse Heights Neighborhood residents are welcome.
