Regional school and local government election results for May 6, 2008.

ANTRIM

Alba Public School

Incumbents Nancy Shepard and Christi A. Wood retained their four-year seats on the Alba school board, with 127 votes and 76 votes, respectively. Challenger Roy A. Wicht earned 64 votes, and challenger Charles Lord earned 26.

Voters also approved a four-year renewal of the districts 18-mill, non-homestead operating millage by a margin of 108 to 44.

Bellaire

After running unopposed, incumbents Tim Underwood and Robert P. Silk won re-election to the Bellaire school board with 136 votes and 123 votes, respectively.

Also, an 18-mill, non-homestead operating millage renewal passed 125 to 26.

Central Lake

Incumbent Neil Rogers and challenger Amy Dawson Talbot won two, four-year seats on the Central Lake school board with 162 votes and 126 votes, respectively. Challenger Sarah Thayer received 120 votes, and challenger Gretchen Hicks received 65.

An 18-mill, non-homestead operating millage renewal passed 210 to 42, and a Charlevoix-Emmet Intermediate School District special education millage renewal passed 204 to 44.

Elk Rapids

Incumbent Doug Coates and challenger Dave Lein won two, four-year seats on the Elk Rapids school board with 1,016 votes and 982 votes, respectively. Challenger Jeff Bergman received 551 votes.

A bond proposal that would net $1.625 million over four years for technology and energy upgrades, among others, passed 62 percent to 38 percent. A total 1,530 votes were cast.

Ellsworth

After an uncontested race, incumbents Gail Rubingh and Kandi Randall won re-election to the Ellsworth school board with 164 votes and 161 votes, respectively.

An 18-mill, non-homestead operating millage renewal passed 166 to 18, and a Charlevoix-Emmet Intermediate School District special education millage renewal passed 145 to 39.

Mancelona Public Schools

After running unopposed, incumbents Amy Moeke Derrer and Frank E. Moser retained their four-year seats on the Mancelona school board. Derrer earned 209 votes and Moser earned 189. Newcomer William Nothstine won a two-year partial term with 145 votes, beating challenger Linda Bielecki, who earned 106 votes.

BENZIE

There were no elections in Benzie County.

CHARLEVOIX

Beaver Island Community School

Voters renewed for one year a 15.7908-mill operating millage on non-homestead property with 110 yes votes to 23 no votes.

Incumbent school board members Dawn E. Marsh and Nancy Tritsch both won unopposed re-election to four-year terms. Marsh received 128 votes and Tritsch received 111 votes.

Boyne City Public Schools

Voters renewed for three years a 18-mill operating millage on non-homestead property with 384 yes votes to 88 no votes. Also approved is a 1-mill tax increase for up to three years to compensate for Headlee reductions. Voters approved the increase with 369 yes votes to 107 no votes.

In a school board race, incumbent Ed Vondra and Marty Moody edged out Kelly Looze. Vonda received 359 votes, Moody received 294 and Looze had 251 votes.

Boyne Falls Public School

Shawn C. Bauman and Lucas Goodwin won unopposed four-year terms to the school board with 56 and 52 votes, respectively.

Charlevoix Public Schools

Voters approved a proposal that would convert a current sinking fund into a seven-year, .55-mill bond for technology upgrades, school bus purchases and remodeling work. The measure passed with 727 yes votes to 585 no votes.

On the school board, Judith D. Ivan and Valerie K. Snyder edged out Kevin M. Pearsall for two four-year seats. Snyder received 791 votes, Ivan received 707 and Pearsall had 612 votes.

East Jordan Public Schools

Voters passed the renewal of a 18-mill operating millage on non-homestead property with 312 yes votes to 97 no votes.

Scott Nachazel and Darren P. Graham each won four-year terms on the school board with 346 and 323 votes, respectively. Tim Kenney received 88 votes.

Charlevoix-Emmet Intermediate School District

A Charlevoix-Emmet Intermediate School District special education millage renewal passed.

CHEBOYGAN

City of Cheboygan

Leslie A. Tebo defeated Steven S. Vanier for a two-year term as mayor. Tebo received 415 votes to Vaniers 100 votes.

Challengers Nick Couture, Billy Jewell and Mark C. Bronson defeated incumbents Gerald R. Boardman and Charles Charboneau, as well as other challengers for three, four-year seats on the Cheboygan City Council. Votes cast include: 408 for Jewell, 241 for Couture, 204 for Bronson, 164 for Carl B. Oxley II, 131 for Richard G. Bedell, 114 for Charboneau, 104 for Boardman, 96 for Debbie Bills, and 70 for Doris Rose.

Cheboygan Area Schools

A one-year 18-mill operating millage on non-homestead property was approved with 768 yes votes to 243 no votes.

Also, incumbent George N. Pike and newcomer Annette Eustice both were both unopposed for two, four-year terms on the school board. They received 768 votes and 840 votes, respectively.

Inland Lakes Schools

Voters renewed a 18-mill operating millage on non-homestead property with 437 yes votes to 140 no votes.

Write-in candidate Zach Skiera received 286 votes to edge out incumbent Wayne Stahl for one of two seats on the school board. Incumbent Cynthia Woodburn received 333 votes for the second seat.

Mackinaw City Public Schools

Voters renewed a 10-year millage not to exceed .75 mills to create a sinking fund for the construction or repair of school buildings. The proposal received 96 yes votes to 74 no votes.

On the school board, incumbent Ed Trudeau received 139 votes to edge out write-in candidate James Bell with 106 votes for a four-year term. Appointed school board incumbent Michael J. Bootz won an unopposed two-year partial term with 113 votes.

Wolverine Community Schools

A one-year renewal of a 18-mill operating millage on non-homestead property passed with 112 yes votes to 18 no votes. School board incumbent Garth Stafford and challenger Sarah Coale beat out two others for two four-year terms on the school board with 76 and 74 votes, respectively. Bob Moody received 39 votes and Lorie Fortune received 49.

No candidates ran for an open three-year partial term on the board.

CRAWFORD

Crawford AuSable School District

Incumbent Jane Lange received 220 votes to defeat challengers David Shriver and Tony Thomson for a two-year partial term on the AuSable school board. Shriver received 142 votes, Thomson 38.

Appointed incumbent Sandra Enos defeated challenger Richard Febey for an open four-year AuSable school board seat with 211 votes to 200 votes, respectively.

EMMET

Harbor Springs Public Schools

Voters approved the renewal of a one-year, 15-mill operating millage on non-homestead property with 457 yes votes to 130 no votes.

School board incumbents Jane Burdick and John W. Fischer defeated challenger Bill Montgomery for two open four-year seats. Fischer received 405 votes, Burdick received 378 votes and Montgomery 270.

Littlefield Public Schools

Voters renewed a one-year operating millage, to increase the levy by up to 6 mills to reach a maximum 18 mills. The proposal passed with 65 yes votes to 30 no votes.

Wade Williams received 76 votes to win an unopposed race for re-election to a four-year term on the school board. Karen McFarland also won an unopposed race for a second four-year term with 72 votes.

Pellston Public Schools

Sheri Kindell and appointed incumbent John P. Ritter both won unopposed four-year terms on the school board. Kindell received 156 votes and Ritter received 143.

Petoskey Public Schools

Voters renewed a two-year, 18-mill operating millage on non-homestead property with 513 yes votes to 185 no votes.

Charlevoix-Emmet Intermediate School District

A four-year renewal of a 1.16-mill special education millage on non-homestead property was approved 1,112 yes votes to 454 no votes.

GRAND TRAVERSE

Because school district boundaries overlap, Antrim County handled Elk Rapids Public Schools election and Wexford County handled the elections of Buckley and Manton schools.

KALKASKA

Kalkaska Public Schools

A technology bond that would net about $750,000 over five years won voter approval by a margin of 681 to 265, or 72 percent to 28 percent. The bond will keep the districts levy at 1.75 mills.

Also, incumbent Terry Thomas and challenger Larry Fields earned four-year spots on Kalkaskas school board, with 434 votes and 429 votes, respectively. Incumbent Robert Dunn earned 418, and challenger Larry Barber earned 412.

LEELANAU

Glen Lake Community Schools

Two newcomers earned spots on the Glen Lake school board, ousting incumbent Joan Hawley from her seat. Challengers Ross Hazelton and Ken Fosmore earned the four-year spots with 613 votes and 528 votes, respectively. Hawley earned 354.

Also, incumbent Frank Skrocki retained his spot with a partial term on the board, ending in June 2010, after running unopposed. He earned 667 votes.

Leland Public School

Voters approved a 0.25-mill bond increase to a 0.3-mill sinking fund approved last year and an existing 2001 levy by a margin of 287 to 165. The funding will pay for technology upgrades, new classroom equipment and buses.

Voters also approved a one-year renewal of the districts 10.9013-mill, non-homestead operating millage by a margin of 352 to 99.

Northport Public School

After running unopposed, incumbent Jeffrey Dyer and newcomer Thomas Wetherbee earned four-year spots on the Northport school board. Dyer earned 105 votes and Wetherbee earned 100.

Suttons Bay Public Schools

Incumbent David Buffum retained his spot on the Suttons Bay school board with 254 votes, and challenger Kenneth Eike will take the second four-year seat with 196 votes. Challenger Colleen Makin earned 142, A. Brooks Darling received 136 and Chris DeJong earned 86.

MANISTEE

Bear Lake Schools

After running unopposed, incumbent Eric Smith and challenger Greg Babinec earned the two, four-year spots on the Bear Lake school board. Vote totals were unavailable.

Kaleva Norman Dickson Schools

After running unopposed, newcomer Heather Stapley earned the one, four-year spot on the school board. Vote totals were unavailable.

Manistee Area Public Schools

Voters approved a three-year renewal of the districts 18-mill, non-homestead operating millage by a margin of 678 to 161.

Also, incumbent Daniel Duchon retained his four-year seat on the Manistee school board with 477 votes and challenger Shelley Lynn Johnson also was elected and garnered 609 votes. Challenger Mike Quinn earned 460.

Onekama Consolidated Schools

Incumbent Dennis Zupin retained his four-year seat on the Onekama school board with 242 votes, and challenger Leslie Acton earned the other spot with 194. Incumbent Mindy Sedelmaier was removed from the board after only earning 113 votes, and challenger Mark S. Coe earned 46.

MISSAUKEE

Lake City Area Schools

Incumbent Patti Woodward and newcomer Cory Rogers earned the two open, four-year seats on Lake Citys school board. Rogers earned 487 votes and Woodward 471.

Voters also approved a one-year renewal of the districts 18-mill, non-homestead operating millage by a margin of 436 to 207.

McBain Rural Agricultural School

Incumbents Jan Geers and Lynn Mulder retained their four-year seats on the McBain school board with 130 votes and 126 votes, respectively.

Voters also approved a one-year renewal of the districts 18-mill, non-homestead operating millage by a margin of 104 to 33.

OTSEGO

Gaylord Community Schools

School board incumbent Cathy OConnor and write-in candidate Michael J. Stachnik won four-year terms on the school board with 469 votes and 178 votes, respectively. A second write-in candidate, Ernest G. Grocock, received 102 votes.

Vanderbilt Area School

Voters opted against a new 1-mill, four-year sinking fund for construction or repair of school buildings with 142 no votes to 130 yes votes.

Debbi Badgley and Tom Serino both won four-year terms on the school board, defeating incumbent Carmen Bartlomiej and Ira I. Holborn. Serino received 182 votes, Badgley received 139 votes, Bartlomiej received 89 and Holborn had 47 votes.

Yvonne Drayton was the only candidate for a one-year partial term on the board and received 181 votes.

WEXFORD

Buckley Community Schools

Voters approved a one-year renewal of the districts 18-mill, non-homestead operating millage by a vote of 52 to 26.

Also, incumbents David R. Buck and Kelle Lynn Tyson will retain their four-year seats on the Buckley school board. Buck earned 71 votes and Tyson earned 67.

Manton Consolidated Schools

Voters approved a one-year renewal of the districts 18-mill, non-homestead operating millage by a vote of 303 to 92.

Also, challenger Jerry Sinkel was the top vote-getter in the race for Mantons school board, with 224 votes. Incumbent Harold L. Kibbe won the other four-year seat, with 168 votes. Incumbent Paul R. Sawin was ousted from the board with 146 votes, and challengers Robert Ruell earned 138 and Randy P. Sucharski earned 91. Write-in candidate Gary Birgy earned 6 votes.
