ANTRIM

Alba Public School

Voters approved a four-year renewal of the district's 18-mill operating millage on non-homestead property by a vote of 108 to 44.

Also, two open four-year positions on the school board were retained by incumbents Nancy Shepard and Christi A. Wood, who received 127 and 76 votes, respectively. Challenger Roy A. Wicht received 64 votes and challenger Charles Lord received 26.

Bellaire Public Schools

After running unopposed, incumbents Tim Underwood and Robert P. Silk won re-election to the Bellaire school board with 136 votes and 123 votes, respectively.

Also, an 18-mill, non-homestead operating millage renewal passed 125 to 26.

Central Lake Public Schools

Incumbent Neil Rogers and challenger Amy Dawson Talbot won two, four-year seats on the Central Lake school board with 162 votes and 126 votes, respectively. Challenger Sarah Thayer received 120 votes, and challenger Gretchen Hicks received 65.

An 18-mill, non-homestead operating millage renewal passed 210 to 42, and a Charlevoix-Emmet Intermediate School District special education millage renewal passed 204 to 44.

Elk Rapids Public Schools

Incumbent Doug Coates and challenger Dave Lein won two, four-year seats on the Elk Rapids school board with 1,016 votes and 982 votes, respectively. Challenger Jeff Bergman received 551 votes.

A bond proposal that would net $1.625 million over four years for technology and energy upgrades, among others, passed 62 percent to 38 percent. A total of 1,530 votes were cast.

Ellsworth Community School

After an uncontested race, incumbents Gail Rubingh and Kandi Randall won re-election to the Ellsworth school board with 164 votes and 161 votes, respectively.

An 18-mill, non-homestead operating millage renewal passed 166 to 18, and a Charlevoix-Emmet Intermediate School District special education millage renewal passed 145 to 39.

Mancelona Public Schools

Voters approved a one-year renewal of the district's 18-mill operating millage on non-homestead property by a vote of 195 to 57.

Also, three people were elected to the school board. Incumbents Amy Moeke Derrer and Frank E. Moser ran unopposed for re-election to two four-year terms. They received 209 and 189 votes, respectively. A third, two-year partial term on the board was won by William Nothstine with 145 votes. He was challenged by Linda Bielecki, who received 106 votes.

BENZIE

There were no elections in Benzie County.

GRAND TRAVERSE

Because school district boundaries overlap, Antrim County is handling the Elk Rapids Public Schools election and Wexford County is coordinating Buckley's and Manton's votes.

KALKASKA

Kalkaska Public Schools (six of 11 precincts reporting)

A bond request that would continue the district's 1.75-mill levy led by a 315 to 90 count late Tuesday. The bond proposal would net roughly $750,000 over five years and would allow the district to purchase technology upgrades.

School board incumbents Terry Thomas and Robert Dunn led in their efforts to defend their four-year seats from challengers Larry Fields and Larry Barber. Thomas received 265 votes, Dunn 247, Fields 121 and Barber 110, with six of 11 precincts reporting.

LEELANAU

Glen Lake Community Schools

Incumbent school board member Joan Hawley was ousted from office by challengers Ross Hazelton and Ken Fosmore. Hazelton received 613 votes, Fosmore received 528 and Hawley received 354. Hazelton and Fosmore will fill two, four-year seats on the school board. Also, incumbent Frank Skrocki ran unopposed for a partial-term, one-year seat, and received 667 votes.

Leland Public School

Voters approved a one-year renewal of the district's 10.9013-mill operating millage on non-homestead property by a vote of 352 to 99.

Voters also approved by a vote of 287 to 165 a 0.25-mill bond increase to the existing 0.3-mill sinking fund approved last year and 2001 levy. The bond will pay for upgrades to technology, classroom equipment and buses for up to five years.

Northport Public School

Incumbent school board member Jeffrey Dyer held his post with 105 votes and newcomer Thomas Wetherbee received 100 votes. Both will fill four-year seats on the school board.

Suttons Bay Public Schools

Incumbent school board member David Buffum held onto his four-year seat with 254 votes, while challenger Kenneth Eike won the second position with 196 votes. Remaining challengers Collen Makin received 142 votes, A. Brooks Darling received 136 and Chris DeJong received 86.
