TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse City West knocked off Cadillac in an important early-season meeting between two of the league’s top volleyball teams.

The Titans won 26-24, 25-23, 25-20.

“This was a big one,” West coach Emily Baumann said. “We played out of our minds on defense.”

Cadillac is the defending BNC champion, but their loss leaves West as the lone undefeated team in league play.

The Titans (12-6-1, 3-0 BNC) were led for the evening by Katie Placek (22 kills, 21 digs), Ally Peters (20 digs), Anna O’Hara (12 kills), Kimmy Bilinski (seven kills, seven digs), Matti Mokanyk (39 assists, 13 digs), Olivia Bishop (four kills, 1.5 blocks) and Kelsey Boudjalis (2.5 blocks).

Petoskey 2

Traverse City Central outlasted Petoskey in a five-game Big North Conference match to win 21-25, 25-9, 25-20, 18-25, 15-3.

The Trojans were led by Devin Dotterrer (22 assists), Kiley Kowal (16 kills) and Sierra Fraser (five blocks).

TC Central (13-7, 2-2 BNC) travels Wednesday to Gaylord.

Elk Rapids 4

Charlevoix 1

Elk Rapids scored four second-half goals to rally for a 4-1 Lake Michigan Conference victory over Charlevoix.

The Elks trailed 1-0 at halftime on a Rayders penalty kick.

Jake Klein led the Elk Rapids surge with two assists and a goal. Garrett Koss tied the game up at 1-1, and then Andy Atkinson, Marty Raymond and Klein added goals.

Jackson Waugh made six saves in goal for the Elks, who outshot Charlevoix 14-7.

Elk Rapids (7-6, 4-0 LMC) travel Friday to play Traverse City Christian.

Bellaire 2

Gaylord 1

Class D Bellaire defeated Class A Gaylord 2-1 in a non-conference game.

Adam Underwood hit the game winner on a free kick from 25 yards out with 10:15 left in the contest. The Eagles got on the board first with 22:12 left in the first half when Drew Emery’s corner kick found Hunter Rowe streaking through the box.

At 24:44 left in the game, the Blue Devil’s Landen Skop found the back of the net to knot the score at 1-1.
