Traverse City Record-Eagle
---- — Committed, compassionate
It is with pleasure and thanks that I endorse the candidacy of Jan Warren for the Traverse City City Commission. Jan has, for over a decade, been a volunteer board member on the City Planning Commission, Women’s Resource Center, Cherry Festival, Goodwill and many other volunteer commissions. She has given her all for this city, and she deserves our support in her run for elected office. Jan is one of the most committed, intelligent and compassionate people I know.
Vote Jan Warren for City Commission; her time is now.
Focus on services
Leelanau County Commissioners, led by Northwest Michigan Council of Governments representative Melinda Lautner, seem to be at it again, “the pot calling the kettle black.”
The Record-Eagle editorial of Sept. 8 has Commissioner Lautner in a state of “shock” because she found out that COG has provided cellphones, a bonus, and cars for COG business (Wow, I want that job).
But wait a minute. Leelanau Commissioners have expensive laptops. (Any personal files, emails and Web searches?)
The relentless effort to shrink government services has in essence reduced the commissioner’s workload without a wage reduction. Hum, sounds like a bonus.
The county does have cars. Hey, I worked for a company that actually made a profit on volume buying and early reselling of company cars.
Nah, I’ll skip the COG job for I have had jobs that have provided cell phones and cars and even a bonus. They expect you to answer that company phone at all hours, and they expect you to drive to far-away places to get the job done, and I have never received a bonus for doing par or worse.
Can we please focus on the services COG provides our county?
