TRAVERSE CITY — The Senior Center Network is offering seniors an opportunity to trek across the Mackinac Bridge on Monday, Sept. 2.

Women Dems’ tea

ELK RAPIDS — Senator Gretchen Whitmer, Democrat Minority Leader, Michigan State Senate, will attend an informal tea hosted by the Antrim Women Dems at 9 a.m. Friday, Aug. 23, at the Old Council Chambers, 321 Bridge St. Reservations are not required.

Blair library services

TRAVERSE CITY — The Traverse Area District Library, in conjunction with Traverse City Area Public Schools, will offer library services Saturday, Aug. 24, at Blair Elementary School, 1625 Sawyer Road.

The library will be open to the public from 9 a.m. to noon. Scheduled programs are preschool storytime and crafts 9:30-10;30 a.m. and Summer Reading Club and Crafts for children in grades one through five 10:45-11:45 a.m. Residents also will be able to borrow books from the school’s library and from a selection of TADL books for children, teens and adults.

Pruning workshop

ARCADIA — Homeowners are invited to a hands-on pruning workshop that includes the opportunity to “Ask an Arborist,” with Dr. David Roberts of the MSU Extension.

The workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 24, at the Arcadia Township Hall, 3422 Lake St. The “Ask an Arborist” session will take place from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Participants may bring in plant material and ask specific questions about their trees and shrubs.

Music ‘Of Note’

LELAND — Sylvia and Jeff Norris will close the “Of Note” free summer concert series at Leland United Methodist Church.

The duo will be joined by friends to present “Give My Regards to Broadway” at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, at the church, 106 N. 4th St. Reservations are not required.

Independent LWV

NORTHPORT — The League of Women Voters Leelanau County will celebrate gaining independent status with the League of Women Voters United States at a potluck on Sunday, Aug. 25.

Preschool play date

TRAVERSE CITY — Traverse City Cooperative Preschool invites area families to a natural playscape playdate at its new Hilly Hollow playground.

The playdate will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Aug. 27, at the school, 720 S. Elmwood Ave. A board or parent member will be on hand to provide access to restrooms and a water fountain. Picnic tables are available for those who wish to bring lunch.
