Author gives talk

Traverse City — An Evening with Heather Shumaker will be hosted at 6:30 p.m. tonight, Jan. 15, at Another Cuppa Joe at the Grand Traverse Commons.

Shumaker, author of "It's OK Not to Share And Other Renegade Rules for Raising Competent and Compassionate Kids," will discuss sharing, literacy, emotions and more. The program is free and open to the public. Coffee, tea and pastries will be available to purchase.

Wellness program

Traverse City — The Senior Center Network has initiated a new "Wellness + You" program for senior citizens.

The free, self-guided program is designed to help seniors of all fitness levels and abilities achieve their personal fitness and wellness goals. Participating seniors receive a points tracking sheet to maintain each month. At the end of the month, they are to be turned in to the Senior Center Network. The points accumulated each month are eligible for prizes, which will be awarded at the end of the year. Anyone who participates, regardless of points achieved, will be entered in a prize drawing.

Morning forum

Lake City — The next "Good Morning Lake City" public forum will be held Friday, Jan. 18.

The event from 7 to 8 a.m. at the Missaukee County EMS Building on First Street will feature from 14 to 16 speakers. The $2 cost per person includes breakfast.

Dance auditions

Interlochen — Dance students in grades six through 12 are invited to an open-call dance audition on Friday, Jan. 25, at Interlochen Center for the Arts.

Auditions include ballet, pointe and modern technique. Participating students will be considered for admission to Interlochen's summer arts program or fine arts boarding high school. Required audition dress for girls is black leotards and pink tights. Boys should wear white T-shirts and black tights. Registration starts at 2:45 p.m. and auditions will be held from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Details are available at
