St. Francis advances to semifinal; Leland falls

The Traverse City St. Francis girls volleyball team has advanced to the state semifinals for the first time in school history after winning its Class C quarterfinal match against Calumet, 3-1.

The Gladiators next play Thursday afternoon in Battle Creek.

Battle Creek St. Philip was just too much for Leland in its Class D quarterfinal, as the Fighting Tigers beat the Comets 3-0 (25-8, 25-11, 25-10).

Cadillac is tied in its Class B quarterfinal against Whitehall, 1-1.
