Man who fell into river expected to recover

TRAVERSE CITY — A homeless man is expected to survive after authorities pulled him out of the Boardman River.

The man, who was intoxicated, fell into the river under the south Union Street bridge on Tuesday at about 4:30. A city police officer, off-duty Grand Traverse sheriff’s deputy and two firefighters pulled him to safety.

He was taken to Munson Medical Center and is expected to recover.
