Beach Bums 2013 schedule released

TRAVERSE CITY — The Frontier League released its 2013 schedule, and the Traverse City Beach Bums will open the season on May 17 in Joliet and make their home debut May 21 against Evansville.

The Frontier League's newest team, the Frontier Greys, will be a travel team replacing the London Rippers in 2013. The Greys will debut at Wuerfel Park on June 7 and will return in both July and August.

Big Hole tourney rescheduled

ACME — The Big Hole Tournament has been rescheduled for Oct. 28 with a noon start on The Wolverine.

The event was originally slated for Oct. 14 on Spruce Run at the Grand Traverse Resort, but was canceled due to rain.

Boater safety class set for Oct. 23, 27

TRAVERSE CITY — A boater safety class will be offered this month by the Coast Guard Auxiliary.

The two-part class is set for Oct. 23 and Oct. 27 at the Coast Guard Air Station.

The eight-hour sessions include boating safety and safety equipment, emergency procedures, navigation rules and aids, boating regulations and charting. It meets Oct. 23 from 5:30-9 p.m. and Oct. 27 from 9 a.m.— 1:30 p.m.

A fee of $10 covers the cost of a book and certificate. Preregister by calling Dianne Walker at 941-8076 by Oct. 20. Six students are needed to hold the class.
