TRAVERSE CITY — A woman accused of scamming at least 60 victims in a mortgage modification scheme pleaded guilty recently to three felonies.
The Michigan Attorney General's Office said Tashia L. Winstanley, 38, of Holly, operated a company called TLW Mortgage Solutions. The company, authorities said, promised victims mortgage modification programs, and victims paid Winstanley directly to deal with banks holding their mortgages. Winstanley then pocketed the money and never negotiated with the financial institutions, officials said.
Victims in Grand Traverse, Leelanau, Kalkaska, Roscommon, Oakland, Genesee, Benzie and Macomb counties lost more than $250,000.
Attorney General spokesman Brian Wood said Winstanley pleaded guilty Friday to one count of running a criminal enterprise and two counts of obtaining money under false pretenses. Sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 14 in the courtroom of 13th Circuit Court Judge Philip Rodgers Jr.
Winstanley is already in prison for convictions of larceny by conversion.
