Doris M. Jannausch

TRAVERSE CITY — Doris M. Jannausch, 91, of Traverse City passed away peacefully Nov. 25, 2012 at Munson Hospice House.

Doris was born on June 12, 1921 in Grand Rapids to the late Leo and Clara (Hartman) Farrell.

On Aug. 17, 1946 she married Alfred "Doc" Jannausch in Grand Rapids.

Doris was a graduate of Western Michigan University and did her graduate work in education at the University of Michigan. Her teaching career included teaching music education from Kindergarten through college. However, her passion was teaching junior high mathematics and science. She taught in Grand Rapids at Holy Spirit Parish and Saint Mary's School where she also served several years as principal. She also was on faculty at Aquinas College. After her retirement, she was called back to teaching in Charlevoix at St. Mary's and also at St. Francis in Petoskey.

Doris was ahead of her time as she balanced a career while raising her family of four. She was a loving wife and mother. In her spare time she enjoyed hooking rugs and spending time at the beach. She also loved to attend the symphony and play the piano. She was a member of the St. Cecelia's Music Society and the third order of the Dominicans. She was also active with the Grand Rapids Youth Symphony.

Doris is survived by her daughters, Marie (Jay) Hooper of Traverse City, Ann Cramer of Coopersville, Beth Mol of Traverse City and son Thomas (Pat) Jannausch of Ann Arbor; sister Lorraine James of Galien and Cape Coral, Fla., eight grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Doris was preceded in death by her husband "Doc" in 2001.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Nov. 30, 2012 at St. Francis Catholic Church.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., on Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012 at the Reynolds-Jonkhoff Funeral Home with the Rosary to be prayed at 7 p.m.

Doris will be laid to rest following the service at Oakwood Catholic Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in memory of Doris may be directed to Munson Hospice House or Grand Traverse Area Catholic Schools.

The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation for the wonderful care and attention Doris received at Concord Place, Munson Medical Center and Munson Hospice House.
